Who knew you could make restaurant-quality chicken wings at home and in under 30 minutes? These Extra Crispy Air Fryer Wings are the real deal, packing in tons of flavor and a crunchy bite. They’re an easy dish to serve at your next party, for game day, or for a fun dinner!
Bring chicken wings to room temperature before cooking for at least an hour. This will help them cook faster.
Using a paper towel, oil the inside of the air fryer basket. This will help the meat from sticking.
Once at room temperature, pat the chicken wings dry using paper towels. In a medium bowl, mix the dry seasoning ingredients together, add in the wings, and toss to coat. Place the seasoned chicken wings inside the air fryer basket.
Set the air fryer temperature to 400ºF and the time for 20-22 minutes. Remove the basket halfway through cooking and flip the wings so they cook evenly.
After the 20 minutes, check the wings to see if they need more time. Smaller wings should cook between 20-22 minutes, and larger ones may need 22-25 minutes.
Once cooked, remove the wings from the air fryer and serve with celery sticks and my EASY HOMEMADE RANCH DRESSING. Leave them as is or coat in your favorite sauce or squeeze a little lime juice over top.
Notes
Pat the wings completely dry before seasoning. Removing moisture helps the skin crisp up perfectly in the air fryer.
Use baking powder, not baking soda. It’s the secret to getting that light, crunchy texture on the wings.
Don’t overcrowd the basket. Give the wings space so the hot air can circulate and cook them evenly.
Flip halfway through cooking. This ensures both sides get golden and crisp without overcooking.
Check for doneness early. Smaller wings may be ready in 20 minutes, while larger ones might need a few extra minutes.
Toss wings in sauce after air frying. This keeps the skin crispy while still giving you that saucy flavor.
Reheat leftovers in the air fryer at 375°F for 5 minutes. It brings back the crunch without drying out the meat.
Add a squeeze of lime before serving. It brightens the flavor and balances the smoky seasoning.
Make them ahead for parties. Cook the wings, refrigerate, then reheat in the air fryer right before serving.
Pair with fresh dips. Try homemade ranch, blue cheese, or a spicy chipotle sauce for a crowd-pleasing spread.
To cook these in the oven, bake fully thawed, seasoned wings on an oiled wire rack at 250°F for 30 minutes on the lowest oven rack. Increase to 400°F, move to the top rack, and bake 45–50 minutes until golden and crispy.
