Why This Recipe Works
I love making this Burger Bowl when I’m craving a classic burger but want something a little lighter and faster. It’s got all the flavor and comfort of the real thing, just in a fresh, easy-to-build bowl.
- Big Burger Flavor: The beef is seasoned simply but perfectly—smoky, savory, and juicy. It gives you that true burger taste in every bite, like the bold flavor you get in these Korean Ground Beef Bowls.
- Fresh and Crunchy: Crisp lettuce, juicy tomatoes, and tangy pickles balance the richness of the beef. Every bite has that mix of textures that keeps it interesting.
- Quick to Make: From start to finish, this comes together in about 20 minutes. It’s one of those meals that feels special but doesn’t take much effort—similar to how easy my Egg Roll Bowl is for busy nights.
- Customizable for Everyone: Add cheese, skip the fries, or toss in bacon—whatever fits your mood. It’s easy to make it low-carb, extra hearty, or somewhere in between.
- Perfect for Meal Prep: The components keep well separately, so you can prep everything ahead and assemble fresh. It’s a great grab-and-go option that still feels homemade.

Ingredients
- Sweet Onion – Adds a mild, natural sweetness that balances the savory beef. Yellow or white onion also works well.
- Ground Beef (80/20) – The perfect mix of lean meat and fat for juicy, flavorful beef. You can swap in ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
- Smoked Paprika – Gives a mild smoky flavor that makes the beef taste like it just came off the grill. Regular paprika works too if you don’t have smoked.
- Burger Sauce – Creamy, tangy, and a little sweet, this ties everything together. Use your favorite store-bought sauce or make your own blend easily at home using my burger sauce recipe.
- Cherry Tomatoes – Add a juicy pop of freshness and color to the bowl. Grape tomatoes or diced regular tomatoes are fine substitutes.
- Pickles – Bring crunch and tang that cut through the richness of the beef. Use dill or bread-and-butter pickles depending on your taste.
- Red Onion – Adds sharpness and color contrast. If you prefer a milder flavor, soak the slices in cold water for a few minutes before serving.
- Lettuce – The crisp base that keeps everything light and fresh. I like using shredded romaine or iceberg for the best crunch.
- Avocado – Adds creaminess and a buttery texture that balances the savory beef.
- Fries or Sweet Potato Fries – Optional but fun for extra crunch and that true burger feel. You can also skip them for a lower-carb version.

Substitutions & Variations
Here are some of my favorite substitutions and variations:
- Protein Options: I usually make this with ground beef, but ground turkey, chicken, or even plant-based crumbles work great too. You can also mix in a little chopped bacon for extra flavor.
- Cheese Choices: I like shredded cheddar for that classic burger feel. You can also melt a slice of American cheese right on the hot beef or try pepper jack for a little spice.
- Veggie Add-Ons: Try adding sliced jalapeños, grilled mushrooms, or roasted bell peppers. They make the bowl heartier and add more texture.

FAQs
Yes. You can easily swap the ground beef for ground turkey, chicken, or even a plant-based option. Just adjust the cooking time slightly so the meat stays tender and fully cooked.
I like using shredded iceberg or romaine because they stay crisp and hold up well under the warm beef. You can also use spinach or mixed greens if you prefer a softer texture.
You can cook the beef and prep the toppings a day or two in advance. Keep everything stored separately and assemble the bowls right before serving for the best texture and freshness.
Absolutely. The bowl tastes great on its own, but you can replace the fries with roasted potatoes, crispy bacon, or extra avocado for a low-carb option.
Store the cooked beef in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. Reheat gently in a skillet or microwave, and always assemble the bowl fresh so the lettuce and toppings stay crisp.

Burger Bowl Recipe
Ingredients
Burger Mixture
- 2 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 sweet onion, small, diced
- 1 pound ground beef, 80/20
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
For Toppings:
- ½ cup burger sauce, or more to taste
- 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
- 1 cup pickles, sliced
- ½ red onion, medium, thinly sliced
- 1 head lettuce, shredded
- 1 avocado, sliced
- fries, or sweet potato fries, optional
Instructions
- Prepare the fries in the air fryer or oven according to package directions until crispy.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the burger sauce ingredients until smooth. Refrigerate until ready to use for the best flavor.
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced sweet onion and sauté for 3–5 minutes, until softened and slightly translucent.
- Increase the heat to medium-high. Add the ground beef, salt, onion powder, garlic powder, and smoked paprika. Break the meat apart and cook for 5–7 minutes, until browned and fully cooked.
- Carefully drain any excess oil or blot with a paper towel for a lighter bowl.
- To assemble, divide the shredded lettuce among serving bowls. Top with the cooked beef, tomatoes, pickles, red onion, avocado, and fries if using.
- Drizzle generously with burger sauce and serve immediately.
Notes
- Use 80/20 ground beef for the best balance of juiciness and flavor. Leaner meat can dry out quickly.
- Let the beef cook undisturbed for a minute or two to develop crispy, caramelized edges.
- Add a splash of Worcestershire sauce while cooking for that classic burger flavor.
- Make the burger sauce ahead of time and refrigerate it for a few hours so the flavors meld together.
- Keep your lettuce cold and crisp by washing and drying it ahead, then storing it in the fridge until serving.
- Slice toppings evenly so every bite has a good mix of textures and flavors.
- For a cheesy version, melt a slice of American cheese or sprinkle shredded cheddar over the hot beef.
- Skip the fries for a lighter bowl and add extra avocado or crispy bacon instead.
- Store each component separately if meal prepping to keep everything fresh and crisp.
- Reheat leftover beef in a skillet for the best texture, and re-crisp fries in the oven or air fryer before serving.
