This Garlic Parmesan Asparagus is my go-to spring side dish—simple, fresh, and roasted until golden with crispy edges and cheesy flavor in every bite.

Why This Recipe Works

We love simple veggie sides, and this Garlic Parmesan Asparagus is our new spring favorite! Here’s why this recipe works:

  • Crispy, Golden Edges: Roasting at 425°F gives the asparagus those lightly crisped tips and tender stalks—no mushy veggies here.
  • Big Garlic Flavor: Three cloves of fresh garlic bring bold flavor that pairs perfectly with the earthy asparagus.
  • Cheesy Finish: A generous sprinkle of freshly grated parmesan adds melty, salty goodness that takes this dish over the top, like our Keto Baked Asparagus with Parmesan.
  • Quick and Easy: Like these Garlic Shrimp Soba Noodles, it’s on the table in under 15 minutes with just a handful of ingredients. Minimal prep, big payoff.
  • Bright Citrus Finish: A squeeze of lemon at the end adds a fresh, tangy finish that balances the richness of the cheese and garlic.

Ingredients

  • Asparagus – As the star of our dish, fresh asparagus brings a tender-crisp texture and a unique, earthy flavor.
  • Garlic – Minced garlic infuses the spears with a bold, aromatic flavor that perfectly complements the asparagus.
  • Parmesan Cheese – We use freshly shredded parmesan cheese for its nutty, salty flavor that takes this dish to the next level.

Substitutions & Variations

Here are some of my favorite substitutions and variations:

  • Skip the Lemon: You can omit the lemon juice and add some extra garlic for super garlicky asparagus.
  • Spicy: Add a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes before roasting the asparagus for a spicier asparagus side.

What to Serve with Garlic Parmesan Asparagus

Main Dishes

  • This garlic parmesan asparagus is a go-to side for any main. We love it with Grilled Cilantro Lime Chicken Thighs or an Oven Cooked New York Strip Steak.
  • It’s also great alongside Oven-Baked Salmon, juicy Pork Chops, or Air Fryer Ribeye Steaks for a no-fuss weeknight dinner.

Other Sides

  • Garlic parmesan asparagus also pairs beautifully with other simple sides. Try it with Buttermilk Mashed Potatoes, Boiled Baby Potatoes with Garlic Butter and Dill, or a Uzbek Beef Plov.
  • We also like serving it next to a fresh spring salad, Lemon Risotto, or Air Fryer Carrots when we’re hosting.
  • And during the holidays, it shines next to Wild Mushroom and Sausage Stuffing, Apple Cranberry Sauce, and classic Green Bean Casserole.

FAQs

Why is my asparagus coming out soggy?

To avoid soggy asparagus, make sure to thoroughly dry them after washing. Also, don’t overcrowd the baking sheet. Give the asparagus some space to allow for even roasting.

How do I know when the asparagus is done?

The asparagus is done when it is tender yet still has a slight crispness to it. You can test it by piercing a spear with a fork. It should easily go through, but the asparagus should not be mushy.

How long does garlic parmesan asparagus keep?

Garlic parmesan asparagus can be kept in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Make sure to store it in an airtight container to maintain its freshness.

  • ½ teaspoons sea salt, or more to taste
  • ¼ lemon, for serving (optional)

Notes

  • Cooking time will vary based on how thick your asparagus spears are.
  • Don’t overcrowd the pan—leave space between the spears so they roast evenly.
  • Skip the pre-grated parmesan. Use a block of real parmesan and grate it yourself.
  • Use a cheese grater for larger shreds—they melt better and crisp up beautifully.
